The key measurements to determine which bike will fit your child best is their inseam and overall height. Kids are different sizes at different ages, so we base our measurements on size rather than age. Here are the bikes according to inseam length that will allow kids to sit on the saddle with two feet flat on the ground:
Inseam Overall Height Bike
|14” - 18”||34” - 42”||Starfish|
|15” - 18”||36” - 42”||Gecko|
|17” - 21”||40” - 48”||Hedgehog|
|20” - 26”||46” - 58”||Owl|
|24” - 31”||55” - 67”||Meerkat|
You’re welcome to visit us at our worldwide headquarters in Sausalito. We do have bikes built up and we are happy to fit your rider.
Your child should be able to comfortably ride one of our bikes for 8-10” of overall height growth. It’s hard to predict how much or how quickly your child will grow but generally kids ride each size bike for about 1-2 years.
We offer a Lifetime Warranty to the original purchaser on all our bikes. The Warranty covers the entire bike for Manufacturer’s Defects. Proof of original purchase is required.
We don’t buy back used bikes. There is a secondary market for our bikes, however, and the resale value of our used bikes tends to be higher than comparable bikes.
Yes. We accept returns or exchanges on bikes returned in unused condition. Customer must re-pack the bike properly for shipping with the padding provided. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance to ensure when re-packing your bike doesn't get damaged on return.
If you don’t see the item you need listed on our website, please contact email@example.com with your replacement parts request.
We don’t have touch-up paint because it’s perishable and never looks perfect. Automotive touch-up paint or model paint is likely your best option.
Our bikes ship with Kenda Kontact tires between 1.95” and 2.125”. The Kontact is a semi-slick/all-around tire. We do offer knobby tires up to 2.125” that fit each bike.
It is possible to bend the derailleur hanger (carefully) and get it straight. We strongly recommend a shop do this, as the bike will only shift correctly when the derailleur hanger is straight.
Any 3/32” chain for a singlespeed or a 7, 8 or 9-speed drivetrain will work on our single speed bikes. The Meerkat uses a 9 speed derailleur style chain, any quality replacement will work.
Grips for the Starfish/Gecko/Hedgehog/Owl are available on the website - The Meerkat uses standard mountain bike grips.
We make our bikes in Taiwan and China.
Steel is lightweight, durable, offers an excellent ride quality and looks great.
Only the Owl and Meerkat frames are large enough to accommodate water bottles on the downtubes, and Owls do have water bottle cage bosses.
Yes. You can purchase a 19mm diameter riser bar for the single speed bikes.
The bike ships without pedals, so you can leave those off initially and use it as a balance bike. You can also remove the cranks/bottom bracket/chain which makes the bike truly a balance bike.
You’ll need a 20” wheel fender like these http://ecom1.planetbike.com/7050-8.html and will need to be installed using “P” clips on the frames.
The riser bar will fit the Gecko stem and brake levers, but the bar is 520mm wide, compared to 420mm for the stock flat bar, so it’s really wide for a little Gecko rider.
You cannot cut it because there won’t be room left for the levers and grips, given how the bar bends. There are various bars with sweep, but none will be 19mm in diameter to fit our levers and grips.
Please feel free to give us a call if you want to talk about the fit in more detail.
Yes! Recommendations coming soon.
We offer Dicta and ACS freewheels that thread on to the rear hub. Please check with your local shop for the appropriate tool to remove the freewheel.
The red reflector goes on the seatpost, use the vertically oriented clamp.
The white reflector is for the handlebar, use the offset clamp on the wider part of the handlebar. The provided rectangular black rubber spacer fits between the handlebar clamp and handlebar.
We recommend getting a shorter seatpost as opposed to cutting your post. https://clearybikes.com/products/seatpost-160mm
All our bikes use a 25.4mm seatpost so all the posts fit into all the bikes.
To adjust the reach, you can slide the saddle forward or back on its rails or turn the seatpost setback forward (remove the seat and turn the post around) to shorten the reach by 1.5”.

We do offer different stems and bars. Our fit video series is coming soon. Stay tuned!
We find that when kids sit on our bikes, they’re able to touch the ground flat footed. This, combined our bikes’ light weight, enables them to feel safe and in control on the bike, which negates the need for training wheels.
We also find that training wheel prevent kids from learning proper balance and steering technique.

Yes. The Meerkat is a nine-speed geared bike.
We sell only the low riser, which is for 19mm controls, You can install a BMX style bar, however it would require new brake levers and grips for that bar’s 22.2mm control diameter.
